Holiday Volunteer Program (HVP)

In recent times agriculture has been abandoned to the old and small-scale farmers that produce majority of the food that feeds the masses. There are efforts by some privilege in society to open some large scale commercial farms. However, the produce from these farms often target export markets. Various incentives mechanisms are being devised and programmes/projects put in place by competent government ministries in Cameroon to attract youths into agriculture. The results are timid and may require time to attain expected results.

In an effort, to contribute to Cameroon government’s efforts to encourage youths to take up agriculture, the AFAF’s Management; design a Holiday Volunteer Program. This falls within the armpit of AFAF Capacity Development. The aim of this activity is first and foremost to get young students connect to nature and get to know how the food they eat is being produced.  The AFAF runs this program at the Bongob Farms Up Station Bamenda. This farm is an All Seasons Advance Agricultural Habit (A.S.A.A.H) for all year production of nutritious food using latest technology, farming practices and optimal farm management.

Potential Impact

The AFAF’s Bongob Farms is increasing becoming an attraction pull, not only to youths from secondary, and tertiary institutions but also the elderly. Maybe this would be the Game Changer that could trigger the much-anticipated paradigm shift in the agricultural sector in Cameroon. See images
